MSU Scientists Work with NOAA & Liquid Robotics, Inc., to Launch Unmanned Surface Vehicle

WHAT: Liquid Robotics, Inc. will launch three unmanned surface vehicles to support a joint research program by Mississippi State University and NOAA studying storms during the 2014 and 2015 hurricane seasons in the northern Gulf of Mexico. Scientists plan to navigate the vehicles into tropical storms and hurricanes, where they can capture data such as surface weather, sea surface temperature, sea state and 3-D upper-ocean current profiles that are critical to accurately representing and predicting hurricane-ocean interactions. Media representatives are invited to cover pre-launch operations at Point Cadet Harbor on the R/V Tommy Munro, a fully equipped oceanographic research vessel.
